Children Christmas Party 2014

Wasn't That A Party?
The Knights of Columbus did a great job in placing a smile on many children's faces and filled them with the "Christmas Spirit" of the season.

The 2014 Annual St. Isaac Jogues Children Christmas Party held on Sunday December 7th was a  success and offered a delicious lunch, games, activities, movie and music.  Let us not forget the special guest,  jolly St.Nick, Santa Clause.

Many activities to take part in.

The hall was decorated with the Christmas Season colours and a delicious smell of the kid's favourite food - fries, filled the room.  All seemed to enjoy taking part in the event.

Brother Jose and family cookin' up the lunch.

This annual event is well participated by our parish community and builds upon the celebration of our saviour's birthday, but also the great pillar's of the Knights - Charity, Unity & Fraternity

The guests were presented with an ensemble of some different genres of music from Bryan and Paul Bertrand.  "Father & Son" Their music consisted of a set of pop, folk, soft rock, country and gospel.

Young Bryan Bertrand Keeps the Beat

Casino Referendum - Municipal Vote - Oct. 27, 2014

Casino proposal link:

Referendum Question:
In the upcoming Municipal Election Oct. 27, brother Knights will be asked if they favour a casino coming to our community.  Please consider these documents when you vote.
Catechism of the Catholic Church:
Quote:
2413 Games of chance (card games, etc.) or wagers are not in themselves contrary to justice. They become morally unacceptable when they deprive someone of what is necessary to provide for his needs and those of others. The passion for gambling risks becoming an enslavement. Unfair wagers and cheating at games constitute grave matter, unless the damage inflicted is so slight that the one who suffers it cannot reasonably consider it significant.

Subject: July 22- Don Smith & Marty Dupuis

Brothers

Don Smith and Marty Dupuis are moving away from our council in the next few weeks.

As an opportunity for Fraternity and to say good by to these two Knights, a small get together is planned for the evening of July 22, 7pm, at the Courtyard restaurant in Pickering @ Brock Rd North of the 401 in the plaza behind the Canadian Tire.

Realizing that this is short notice and it is mid-summer can you please e-mail me at ldowneyn202@rogers.com or call 416 992 0311 if you plan to attend. If the numbers are small due to circumstances I may change the venue.

Don is already in the process of moving so his time lines might be a little tight.

Thank you

Leo Downey

Reinvigorating the Council

There are a number of ways this can be accomplished:
  • admissions drive
    • Multicultural Diversity
    • leverage large Parish base
  • Council mission/values
  • different methods of fund raising
  • web enabled to engage members: calendars, website, blogs, online document/task lists (in progress)
  • Membership Survey (in progress):
  • achieving 100%  survey of members with both sign up and participation. ie. chairs are filled.
  • survey using Surveymonkey.com : no need for MS Office or emails of forms

Please comment actionable suggestions to the above or any new ways.
